WEST COLUMBIA, SC -- Pineview Elementary School’s Girls on the Run raised $700 for the local chapter of the Make a Wish Foundation during its annual service project.
Girls on the Run members held a schoolwide “Hats on to Help Day,” in which all students and faculty members who donated a dollar or more could wear a hat at school all day, with proceeds benefiting Make a Wish.
Mary Silverburg from Make a Wish came to Pineview on Friday, May 4, and team members presented her with the check. It’s the fourth year Pineview has partnered with the nonprofit Make a Wish for its community service project.
Twenty-seven Pineview Elementary students participated on this year’s Girls on the Run team. The organization, for girls ages 8-13, teaches life skills through conversation-based lessons and running games, culminating in a 5K running event, according to its website. Pineview’s coaches this year were Melanie Yoder, Jamie Allen, and Codee Worthy.
